“Thanks for returning my files. Would recommend to my anyone who has dropped their external USB drive.”
V Samson, Richmond upon Thames
We received a Seagate external USB drive enclosure containing a 3TB hard disk drive at our London Fleet Street laboratory from Richmond upon Thames. The drive was examined by our hardware data recovery specialists revealing the spindle motor assembly and the read/write heads were both damaged, a common consequence of impact damage.
Our hardware data recovery engineers were able to overcome the issues by using donor parts, which allowed them to secure a sector-by-sector copy of the drive. Approximately a thousand unreadable bad sectors were encountered during the imaging process.
When the secured image was analysed by our data recovery specialists it revealed a single 3TB NTFS data volume containing approximately 1.3TB of data. The recoverable files consisted of many music, video and photo files and a large assortment of office documents. An detailed analysis of the files revealed that one music file had been damaged by the unreadable bad sectors, otherwise all other files appeared to be intact.
